This year, Anaheim University established the Carrie Hamilton Entertainment Institute in honor of Hamilton, who starred in the TV show "Fame", the Broadway musical "Rent", and the 1988 film Tokyo Pop. Carrie also worked with her mother on the adaptation of Burnett's memoir One More Time for the stage play "Hollywood Arms". In 2002, Carrie died from cancer at the young age of 38.

The Carrie Hamilton Entertainment Institute is being established "with the hope of inspiring young entertainers to reach for the stars and to make the most out of and be grateful for every day, every experience and every opportunity." Rock and roll photographer Bob Gruen who photographed Hamilton on the set of Tokyo Pop spoke in her honor. Carol Burnett appeared in person to officially launch the Institute in tribute to her daughter.
