Railroad Tigers: Freezing Cold!

Pictures from Railroad Tigers reveal bitterly cold weather. Ding Sheng reported yesterday that the temperature was -15 deg C. with a wind chill factor of -10 deg. He said he was wearing 3 layers of protective clothing, 2 pairs of socks and had 2 inner soles in his shoes. Some of the stunt team filled in the time by making pretty designs in the snow.

In other news a release date for Railroad Tigers in Malaysia has been announced for October 2016.

Voice of the Blue Flagstone

Voice of the Blue Flagstone (previous translation 'Quartzite Tells') has been released. This is a promotional song for Changting County, Fujian Province, China. Jackie donated his time to sing the song for the county. He also organised for it to be composed and recorded.

Jackie Chan Presents Li Lihua With Lifetime Achievement Award

Lee Li-hua (李麗華), whose acting career has spanned close to four decades, on Saturday received the lifetime achievement award at the Golden Horse Awards, the Taiwanese equivalent of the Oscars.

The 91-year-old actress, being pushed onto the stage in a wheelchair, only waved to the audience but did not give a speech. She received a standing ovation from the crowd.

Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan (成龍) presented the award to Lee.

Lee was trained in Peking opera as a child. She made her first movie "San Xiao" in 1940 at the age of 16 and has appeared in more than 120 films throughout her illustrious career.

Lee played the female lead in the 1962 film "The Magnificent Concubine," which was the first Chinese-language film to win an award at the Cannes Film Festival.

Other memorable films in which she appeared include "Empress Wu,” "Bright Day" and "General Chai and Lady Balsam.”

Lee won the Golden Horse Awards for best actress in 1965 and 1969 with her performances in "Between Tears and Smiles" and "Storm Over the Yangtze River."

Pierce Brosnan Cast In "The Foreigner"

Two of the world’s most famous action heroes are joining forces, as Pierce Brosnan is set to star opposite Jackie Chan in an untitled action thriller that Martin Campbell will direct for STX Entertainment and SR Media Corporation, TheWrap has learned.

Chan stars as a humble restaurant owner in London’s Chinatown. When the justice system fails him, he is forced to push his moral and physical boundaries to track down the group of rogue Irish terrorists responsible for the death of his beloved daughter.

Brosnan will play Liam Hennessy, a former IRA member-turned-government official.

Jack (Jackie Chan), a renowned professor of archeology at the Terracotta Warriors Museum in Xi'an, teams up with beautiful Indian professor Ashmita and assistant Kyra to locate India's lost Magadha treasure in Tibet. Jack's assistants Xiaoguang (Lay Zhang) and Nuomin (Miya Muqi) accompany them. They are later joined by Jones Lee (Aarif Rahman), whose father was Jack's old friend. Using various new clues and GPS, the group locates the lost Magadha army that had escorted the treasure in ancient times, buried in an ice cave that has been hidden for centuries. Here's Hoping!

Golden Network Asia has the international distribution rights to Kung Fu Yoga, and Railroad Tigers. They will be marketing the films at the American Film Market which runs from November 4 - 11 in Santa Monica. Here's hoping these films get picked up.

Golden Network will be at the AFM with a trio of Jackie Chan films including action comedy Railroad Tigers and adventure comedy Kung Fu Yoga.

Directed by Stanley Tong, big budget Chinese-Indian action-adventure Kung Fu Yoga has begun shooting in China and Dubai with a cast that includes Chan, Sonu Sood (Dabangg), Aarif Rahman, K-pop star Lay, Zhang Yi Xing and Miya Muqi.

The film is financed by Sparkle Roll Media Corporation and Beijing Taihe Entertainment, with the shoot due to move to India next year.

Chan next shoots action-comedy Railroad Tigers for director Ding Sheng, who previously collaborated with Jackie Chan on Police Story 2013 and Little Big Soldier.

Sparkle Roll Media Corporation, Shanghai Film Group and Beijing Going Zoom Media are on board to finance.

Golden Network is also handling completed martial arts film The Master from director Xu Haofeng, screenwriter on The Grandmaster, critical hit Saving Mr. Wu, starring Andy Lau, and Who Am I 2015.

Executive produced by Jackie Chan, the latter is a homage to action comedies directed by rising talent Song Yinxi.

He has a goal to bring a Chinese designed car to Le Mans and has started by forming a racing team who are competing in the Chinese Endurance circuit with an all Chinese technical team. After achieving success as a driver, David Cheng is set to take on a whole new set of responsibilities, with the formation of his own team for the 2015/2016 Asian Le Mans Series season.

The two-time and reigning series champion has launched DC Racing, which will initially enter the LMP3 ranks but with the ultimate goal of taking a Chinese manufacturer to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

For the 26-year-old Beijing native, who has also enjoyed racing success in the U.S., including a class victory at the Twelve Hours of Sebring, the timing was right to make the move into becoming a team owner.

“Starting my own team is something I’ve always wanted to do,” Cheng told Sportscar365.

“The idea was there but it was always a dream scenario. Realistically, everything came together really well, although it’s been a real push.

“Two weeks after Le Mans, we got the go-ahead and started to work on what it takes to form the team. Between then and now it’s been a really short time to put everything together.”

Cheng has quickly assembled a solid foundation, having brought on Remy Brouard, the mastermind of OAK Racing Team Asia’s effort, as team principal, with Ho-Pin Tung as his co-driver in the new Ligier JS P3.

He’s also managed to secure a significant, yet-to-be-announced partner in the team, which is likely to help gain mainstream media attention not only in China but abroad.

“Our whole target with starting this team is to keep the story rolling,” Cheng explained. “We started a project two years ago in Asian Le Mans and with Chinese drivers at OAK Racing.

“We feel like we haven’t achieved our goal yet, which is obviously to win Le Mans.”

For now, the immediate focus will be on the four-round Asian LMS championship, which will see the China-based outfit forge a technical partnership with leading LMP2 outfit Eurasia Motorsport for the first season.

“We wanted to work with an Asian-based team on the technical assistance for this year,” Cheng said. “Slowly we’ll start to bring in our own technical crew as we move forward.

“But as we’ve been working on an accelerated timeline, for this first season, it makes sense to find a team that’s experienced in Asia and endurance racing. So our partnership with Eurasia makes a lot of sense.”

With the LMP3 class champion in the Asian LMS receiving an automatic invite to next year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans in LMP2, Cheng has targeted his team making a trip to the French endurance classic, should they secure an entry.

“The idea is to do it with a Ligier JS P2,” he said. “Working with OAK Racing and the Onroak factory for this long, it definitely makes sense to continue our relationship, especially with our core group of drivers and with Remy.

“Of course watching KCMG take the [LMP2] victory was a little envious. Being a Hong Kong team, I think they’ve paved the way and have shown that it’s achievable for an Asian team to come into LMP2, go to Le Mans and achieve victory.

“For our team, we want to be flying the Chinese flag at Le Mans. We know we have to set a realistic target in our first year.”

Cheng, however, is banking on the big potential in his country’s burgeoning automotive industry, as he’s laid out the long-term goal of aligning with a Chinese manufacturer and help take them to the global stage.

“The 20, 30 or 40-year dream is to emulate what Carroll Shelby has done in the U.S., but in China,” Cheng said.

“Chinese [auto] manufacturers already exist but most of the cars they’re selling are all within China, and to be frank, the quality isn’t quite up to the established major manufacturers are at yet.

“That’s where I see the opportunity and that’s where Le Mans racing comes in. Le Mans is all about developing technology for manufacturers and the Chinese auto industry is a perfect fit.

“The clear goal is to become the sporting arm for one of these manufacturers. Of course, forming my own team is the first step in that goal.”

A number of Chinese automakers could be in position for such a move, including Dongfeng Motor, the country’s largest independent brand; Geely, owners of Volvo, which recently purchased Miller Motorsports Park; and Beijing Automotive, which already fields a single-make series in China.

Cheng has strategically established his team’s base in the city of Wuhan, which is considered to be China’s automotive and transportation hub of more than 10 million people.

“I’ve visited a lot of these factories already and have been actively trying to convince them to go into sports car racing,” he said.

“More and more, as racing is developing in China, all of these brands are recognizing it and realizing the value in racing. Especially as they’re heavily into R&D right now, going racing, especially sports car racing, makes sense.

“For me, establishing the team is definitely a key step in developing key partnerships over here in China.”

CHENG AND TUNG: CHINA IN THEIR HANDS

The famous turquoise of the Pegasus team is as distinctive as it is familiar, and there is a feeling of optimism as the team prepares to be the Chinese crowd’s LMP2 favourite this weekend.

“Certainly it is nice to be back here in front of our home fans and knowing that we have a good chassis and engine combination with the Morgan car and the Nissan engine,” said David Cheng today. “If the weather is like this (wet) we will be quick as well as we are the only LMP2 runner on Michelin tyres and everyone knows how well they perform in the damp and wet.”

Cheng and Tung are joined at Pegasus Racing this weekend by a returning Alex Brundle, and Cheng believes that they have a good chance of a top result this weekend.

“We have a strong and reliable package and we all know the car and circuit well, so we come here with some confidence,” confirmed Cheng.

With endurance racing gaining a foothold in China after hosting a WEC round every year since the formation of the series in 2012, Cheng thinks that the Chinese public are beginning to become immersed in the WEC.

“I think that you can see the Chinese public are taking to endurance racing more and more now,” says Cheng. “Racing in front of a home crowd is really cool. Seeing familiar faces, friends and family really makes it a great event for us. All our partners will have a great weekend here; unfortunately Jackie Chan is away shooting a movie and can’t be here. He is such a big race fan and he will definitely come to a race in the future as he is very supportive of our programme.”
